I just discovered The West Wing and watched it in its entirety from Season 1-7. The actors were great, the dialogue fantastic.

I'm sort of glad I didn't see the show contemporaneously to current events. It hit me by season 2 that the show was going in to the first years of the Bush presidency with the ultimate fantasy ideal of a liberal president/ New Englander, Nobel Prize winning, all around Jimmy Stewart type of guy. At first, I thought this must have been the ultimate escapist release for democrats at the time. (The situation now, being reversed with the Obama presidency).
